10 Video games any 90’s kid should have played

9. Crash Bandicoot

Many nights were spent with this little orange weirdo. Spinning through crates, ass-sliding along boxes in the vain hope that the momentum would keep us going so we didn’t fall into a seemingly bottomless pit of despair when we failed to find that lost box and as such not get the white or otherwise coloured gem that would unlock an entire bonus level either later or earlier in the game depending on where you were. And breathe. Crash, mother-humping, Bandicoot, now everyone worth their salt should have played this franchise at some point in their life, excluding the Game Boy Advanced Spyro cross over ’cause urgh, even crash team racing wasn’t that bad. Anyway….what can I say about bandicoot? It was hell of fun, you collected apples, smashed boxes and got a floating witch doctor mask, called Aka Aka BTW I think me and my mates called him Ooogabooga. It was always about thwarting neo cortex, who looks a bit like a neo-nazi doc brown now that I think back to it, with that giant N tattooed on his forehead. Eventually all the jumping over things or on top of things got a bit dull so the game got changed up every time it had a sequel, be it playing as Crash’ sister Coco bandicoot or riding around tiny little animals, like a tiger or polar bear cub. Although, one of the “cheats” during the first game to jump on the baby bear a few times then body slam the poor little thing to get a load of lives was just hilarious…if technically cruel.

What do you think?
