7. Age of Empires

Well, admittedly Civilisation is a more in depth game with multiple ways of winning but the NPCs are a judgemental lot, even Montezuma of the Aztec’s denounced me a s a blood thirsty, warmongering tyrant not 10 turns after he offered to make human sacrifices in my honour…but I’m getting carried away here. Age of Empires is one of the best games of my childhood. No one there to nag me as I sent forth vast armies to smash my foes and erected wonders. Sure, it lacks a lot of things and a lot of people think that their Age of Mythology shanked the franchise in a bloody, prison style riot. But that’s just not true, aye, it was a bit more fanciful than some fans may have enjoyed but having jackal men leap over walls and slaughter the foes peasantry was always very pleasing. Anyway, there’s not a lot else I can say about AoE. Simply because it’s one of those well known franchises really isn’t it. Hell, I occasionally still hunt out the disk to have a play. Although, I keep my brother well enough away, by end game he had that many damned Ballista towers, the game would lag and crash. If you haven’t played any of the AoE games, I highly recommend dredging up an old copy from a second hand game store or finding it on the internet. It’s one of those games that lets out the bloodthirsty, warmongering dictator inside us all.
