Things I love and hate about… Dark Souls 3

Love – Blend of Bloodborne and Souls

If you’ve played Bloodborne you will immediately notice the impact it has had on its slower sister series. While bulky armour and shields return make a triumphant return to form putting a firm stamp on the fact that Souls is defence Bloodborne is offence. Overall movement speed and fluidity of combat is quicker, more responsive and immediate and while you will certainly find yourself behind your trusted shield a lot, when you do decide to jump in and attack it’s easy to make the comparison.

This is especially true if you decide to roll a Dexterity based character with quick weapons, you’d be forgiven for thinking the two were under the same name. It’s here you can find yourself rolling into enemies, staggering them and hacking them down without so much as a “Praise the Sun”. Essentially Bloodborne’s feeling and flow have been tucked under the pretence of Dark Souls aesthetic and mechanics and the end result is brilliant. Certain enemies also feel like they have made the trip from Yharnam to Lothric in the way they move and pounce toward you with hood covered faces and red eyes. It’s a welcome nod and reminder of the previous title and certainly lends itself to hoping we see another entry in that series now the Dark Souls 3 is out in the wild.

What do you think?
