Things I love and hate about… Dark Souls 3

Hate – NPC Quest Structure

Fire_Keeper

Slight disclaimer with this one, I really like the character quests in Dark Souls 3 and indeed any Souls/Borne title. The stories they tell are deep, intricate tales that tell the journeys of each NPC and more often than not conclude with surprising endings. My problems lie in the military precision required to satisfy the necessities for each quest. If you happen to miss one piece of dialogue or one small event then you may find that quest line ruined and irreparable, this can be infuriating when by their very nature these games leave you to your own devices and finding out the triggers is typically trial and error on subsequent New Game runs.

I understand that this is very much part and parcel of the experience by now but I cannot help but feel for players with limited time or those who simply do not wish to play through the entire game time and again as they miss out on content that could be a little more easier to access. In this game there are even character quest lines that affect other NPC narratives so if you screw one up you wreck the other. For diehard fans this won’t be an issue as New Game + and replayability is all part of the fun but for players like me who play through just the once and feel satisfied, it’s quite frustrating.

What do you think?
