The graphics in Far Cry Primal can only be described as stunning! There is an extremely efficient use of light throughout the game, there is a day and night sequence, however the lighting is also different at dawn and dusk, so in total there are 4 separate lighting effects used during the day night cycle. Everything looks real from grass to water and from foliage to the bark on trees everything looks just right, where the game really comes into its own is with the animals, the fur the movement all add to the realism and ambient feeling of the game, every detail has been thought of, right down to the reflection of light in the wolf’s eyes at night. One thing missing from Far Cry Primal is rain, which was a favorite of many people in previous Far Cry games but you will find the addition of morning mist, and fog during one specific mission.
Some people find the animation when you are skinning animals a little hard to take, so the clever guys over at UBISOFT have given you the opportunity to turn this animation off. This way everyone can enjoy the game no matter if you want the full animation or not. The full animation is not as brutal as in previous versions of Far Cry, but you do have the option to turn it off anyway.
Sound plays an integral part of any good game, the Far Cry Primal team have not skimped on the time they have put into creating this important part of the experience. Wind and water all have distinct sound as does movement, running creates a completely different sound than walking, move too quickly and you will alert any nearby enemy, or spook an animal you are hunting. Even the ‘ping’ you hear when you fire a bow will differ depending on the strength of the bow itself, every detail has been thought of even down to the sound of the arrow scraping on the bow as it is drawn.
“just as you are about to fire your bow you don’t want to suddenly find a Sabre Tooth Tiger bearing down on you at 60 kilometres per hour”
Every animal has its own sound and this is where Far Cry Primal really comes into its own, growls and snarls will tell you an animal is in the area, and you will be able to identify which animal it is by the sounds they make, a very useful thing when you are all on you own and trying to stay alive. The animals will be going about their own business of hunting or grazing and will make all of the normal sounds that they would make in the wild, again this really adds to the realism of the game.
