Although the games begins with a very small map, only a player new to the Far Cry franchise will think it will end there, as you progress you will quickly realise that the map is enormous, you will need to light Bonfires and capture Outposts as this will unlock fast travel points. My advice to anyone playing Far Cry Primal is unlock the fast travel points as soon as you can as you will have to traverse the map several times to complete your tasks. Crisscrossing the hostile environment will have your adrenaline pumping and I found myself on several occasions thinking “Lions and Tigers and Bears …. Oh my!”
To gain access to the full crafting menu you will first need to meet the people that can help you, this is done by playing through the story. Once you have met a character there are 7 in total and brought them to your village you can build them a hut, and in return they will share their secrets with you. Some will give you access to stronger weapons, while some will give you access to better hunting skills, and some will let you carry more equipment. The difficulty increases depending on the skills they will bring to your village, once they are on board, you will be able to upgrade their hut bringing additional items or a higher XP, and will also allow you to craft stronger or better items.

Once the upgrades are unlocked you will then have to start hunting for resources, wood stone and animal skins to craft your upgrades, most items can be upgraded 3 or 4 times making the item stronger in some way. Some of the resources are quite rare and only found in specific areas of the map, also be aware there are different types for certain things, wood for example can be Maple or Alder and there is also rare versions of each. North stone is quite different from south stone, and moon rock is another addition so as you can see it is not simply a case of look for wood or stone. For me personally the best skill to learn was the ‘Beast Master’ this skill lets you tame certain wild animals, once tamed the animal becomes your companion and ally. Your ally will help you fight or hunt as your skill as a Beast Master increases you will be able to tame larger and stronger animals; the larger ones can be ridden which gives another dimension to your game play. You can also ride the Mammoths although if you approach them too quickly they will attack you, when attacked by a mammoth if is extremely difficult to survive as they will chase you and they are very fast and very aggressive, making escape near impossible.
