PS VR
Next up, it was Playstation VR’s time to shine. We saw a whole bunch of reveals here:
- Resident Evil VII: Biohazard –
I don’t do horror. I am not a fan of the genre in the slightest. I don’t think horror games are bad, I simply am not a person who likes to be scared. So, even though I’ll be giving the newest instalment in the popular Resident Evil franchise, this trailer is sure to excite fans as it looks, well, scary again, something that fans have felt has been lacking in the more recent entries in the series. The idea of someone playing this in PS VR frightens me. They might want to pay for their new psychiatrist up front…
- Farpoint –
Farpoint is an interesting new IP that seems to focus on both exploration and FPS action gameplay. The visual aesthetic looks like it could be a real treat when viewed through the PS VR headset.
- Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission
EA Dice is teaming up with developer Criterion for this one, the studio behind the Burnout racing games, as well as the speeder bike missions in the base game. They’ve come together to develop a new mission for Star Wars Battlefront to be played exclusively in VR – the X-Wing VR Mission. Excitingly, it seems to be set as a dog fight in space, something fans sorely missed in the base game. Disappointingly, the teaser only implies the inclusion of one mission, though don’t be surprised if more are on their way.
- Batman: Arkham VR –
Perhaps one of the most exciting moments for me personally was when Mark Hamill’s Joker voice began to play over the dark screen. Batman’s suit was slowly revealed to a monologue by the clown prince of crime, and it ended with an exciting hashtag – #WearTheCowl. Is this a new VR title, developed by none other than Rocksteady Games, in which you get to see through the eyes of the World’s Greatest Detective? Yes. Yes it is. The game was given an October release window, so you can probably expect the launch to coincide with the VR headset’s release of October 13.
Final Fantasy XV
Y’know, for a game called Final Fantasy XV, there sure are a lot of them. The fifteenth main instalment in the massively popular JRPG series. The trailer features new gameplay, a LOT of Chocobo riding, and also reveals that fans will be able to play as Prompto in what appears to be an arena-based monster killing VR minigame. Cool.
