It’s that time of year again where every gamer goes into meltdown, Yes its E3 and like last year Microsoft ended their presentation with something quite special. This year they opened with something truly remarkable.
Last year Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox) unveiled a video that described their new “Project” only titled Project Scorpio.
Since then there have been numerous videos of tech experts describing what certain specs that were announced actually do and mean. I for one watched them and still didn’t understand the true meaning of the specs. All I know is Microsoft claim to have made the most powerful console ever.
Since the Next Gen launch in 2013 Microsoft has taken massive steps back as again they made a huge console and left out huge parts to make it great and in the gap that was left Sont stepped back into the fold and dominated with their exclusive titles and amazing back catalog. One of the key elements was also the user-friendly interface, unlike Sony, Microsoft had a slow menu system which looked like an oversized Nokia Lumia screen in your room.
Fast forward a few years and Microsoft release the Xbox One S which is slimmer and supports 4K but not in games, only in streaming. So the likes of Netflix etc. but with that announcement, we got Project Scorpio.
I for one was buzzing with excitement for the chance to look upon the craft of these developers and look in astonishment at the most powerful console ever.
So Phil Spencer comes on stage and immediately starts to talk everything Project Scorpio and then the new name is announced.
Enter the world – Xbox One X
Here are some of the specs,
- 6 Teraflops, 326GB/s of Memory Bandwidth and advanced, custom silicon, the Xbox One X Engine is the most powerful console gaming processor ever created.
- A first for home consoles, Xbox One X’s Vapour Chamber uses advanced liquid cooling to ensure the Xbox One X Engine stays cool.
- A supercharger-style Centrifugal Fan rapidly pulls in and compresses air to deliver maximum cooling with minimum noise.
- To maximise performance and minimise power consumption, the Xbox One X uses the Hovis Method, a cutting-edge digital power delivery system that custom tunes each console’s voltage.
- True 4K Gaming
- HDR Gaming and Entertainment
It truly sounds remarkable.
So when is it out and how much is it?
Well, it is due for worldwide release on 7th November 2017 at a retail price of  $499 or £449 although bundles may be the case coming up to launch.
What does this mean for my current games?
Have no fear the Xbox One X will play all your current games with a majority of them getting FREE 4K updates, some of the games are;
- Gears of War 4
- Forza Horizon 3
- Halo Wars 2
- Killer Instinct
- Minecraft
- Skyrim
- The Witcher
- For Honor
- Ghost Recon Wildlands
- Homefront
- Injustice 2
- Outlast 2
- Titanfall 2
- Hitman
- Fallout 4
- Resident Evil 7
- Rocket League
- Final Fantasy XV
- Doom
- Ark
- Dead Rising 4
- We Happy Few
- Elder Scrolls Online
Don’t worry though if you have a game that is not on the above list it will still work and will work better than it does on your current console, it just will look better on an Xbox One X console.
I for one can’t wait for the console and will love the opportunity to play Fifa 18 in 4K or make a touchdown in Madden 18 or chainsaw some grubs in Gears of War 4.
The future for consoles is here.
