Remastered and brought to the latest consoles, Resident Evil 5 is the next game in the popular zombie loving franchise to be given a Makeover, but has it improved in any way? Based in Africa, the game follows Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar as they try to uncover the secrets behind a deadly virus that has turned much of the inhabitants of a village into a zombie cult.
There are many different types of zombies in the game such as a simple axe wielding undead to a crazed chainsaw wielding tank that cost me most of my ammo and a pair of good pants!
Resident Evil 5 brings together many staples of the franchise and brings in new ones. ‘5’ was the first to bring in Co-op to the main series, it featured more action based gameplay and brought back fan favourite Chris Redfield. Whilst this is great, the horror and thrill of the earlier games is lost in this mix. Having a co-op partner makes the experience less tense and more “Can you move please?” and “Sorry for stealing all the ammo” however, you will not find a more entertaining and thrilling co-op experience. Whilst the game can be played solo, I would not recommend as the AI is not great, they will waste ammo and healing items and constantly get in the way so for the best possible experience, bring a friend, preferable one you don’t mind shouting at because he stole the .44 Magnum that you wanted…
The graphics haven’t gone through a major ‘remastering’. They have one a very impressive job at making the game look exactly the same. The lighting is better and the framerate has been improved but it still looks how I remember it which gave it a very nostalgic feel, something most remasters fail to do nowadays as they overhaul the game. Resident Evil 5 looks, sounds and feels as it did when it was first released which I was quite happy with. The gun sounds are solid and impactful, the music is tense and used at the best possible moments and the voice acting is a cheesy as ever!
Resident Evil 5 includes all of the previously released DLC including Lost in Memories which takes players back to the original duo, Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield as they return to Mansion of the first game. Also included is Desperate Escape which takes place during the main campaign and follows Jill and Josh Stone as the try to reach Chris and Sheva from the main game.
