Lego Marvel Avengers is based on the cinematic Marvel Universe and follows closely to the movie, so if you haven’t seen them be warned there maybe a few spoilers contained in this review ( if you haven’t seen them WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN !!! )
This is the latest installment from TT Games and like other versions has the same features, you can smash blocks to collect studs, you can destroy environments to collect studs, you can build things to collect studs, yes you guessed it there are lots of studs to collect.

The first level sees you play as a few characters, Hawk Eye, Black Widow, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America. Each with their own special abilities just like the movie, using the skills from each character will allow you to progress through the game. TT Games introduced a new team up ability in this game and you do have to use these to be able to pass certain sections in the missions.
“With over 100 characters on the standard edition there sure is a lot to go through”
The controls are very simple but at times I found a bit frustrating, having played all the other versions of lego games i found that i was trying to use the controls from a previous version, for example Captain America can put out fires with his shield, in Lego Marvel Avengers you have to be prompted to press B then prompted to press A for him to be able to put them out yet in Marvel Super Heroes all you had to do was hold B, i found this small change frustrating but this may just be me.
As you progress through the level you change characters so that it keeps the story flowing and each section utilises all characters. The small puzzles like remembering a code and using characters in set orders are all there.

The level designs are to the usual high standard and look fantastic, sometimes it’s easy to lose track of what you’re supposed to be doing on the mission so you end up running around looking for hints, jumping blocks, floating signs. With the movie dialogue coming into the game it is a great addition however in places it just feels that it was put there for the sake of it. During some missions like the 2nd one when you rescue Coulson, there are some audio snippets that play when you are running around but don’t really feel relevant and again are there for the sake of it.
With over 100 characters on the standard edition there sure is a lot to go through, once you complete a mission you can play through again collecting items that you can’t collect on the 1st play through as you do not have the abilities to do so yet.
This is a great game to play with the family as it offers multiplayer via split screen, you can either have this displayed in the legacy horizontal or vertical, or use the dynamic split screen that they added back in Indiana Jones 2 ( should note some mission force fixed split screen ). The dynamic split screen is good as there is no restriction on where you can explore however you can easily get lost with the way it rotates around the screen.
