Inside My Radio Review

 Inside My Radio Game Details

The name of the game suggests it all, you are inside a radio as a bright green LED box character called Taek who gets sucked into a dying boombox to save music. You need to help bring back Disco, Electro and Dub back to life by playing through a number of platformed levels in perfect rhythmic beat!

I’m not kidding when I say in perfect rhythmic beat, everything you do from jumping, dashing and slamming your way through these old skool techno looking levels has to be on the beat of the soundtrack! so you cannot play this game in silence (I suggest turning up the bass and playing it through some kicking speakers). Seaven Studio have created a great way to make the gamers head bop whilst trying to tap your “A,B,X and Y” buttons to the beat.

“It reminds me of a kaleidoscope”

The game’s visuals are amazing, I have to say you will be mesmerized by the change of colour and the awesome glowing lights whilst jumping through different stages. It reminds me of a kaleidoscope, just how the colour can change from the different tones and make cool shapes by the change of a beat. That brings me onto the soundtrack and general sounds… I loved it, at some points I actually couldn’t stop my head from bobbing. The developers done really well to implement different genres of music such as: Electro, Techno, Dub, Disco and a lot of Funk!

When playing the game and navigating through each level you need to get used to a few controls, which are made difficult when you realise you can only use each move when in time with the beat (Mistakes were made!). The controls are as follows: “A” is used to jump, “X” is used to do a dash (on the floor and mid air when combined with jump), “Y” is used to do a slam move which helps break certain obstacles and “B” is used to adapt certain environments and objects. There are other controls that you will be introduced to which use “RT and LT” these primarily help with certain platform alterations. (The game has an on the go tutorial system which helps a lot!)

“surely I can just jump and dash through the level’s

whilst listening to a cool soundtrack, well nope…

you’re wrong.”

Now you may be thinking, what does he mean I have to be in beat to use these moves, surely I can just jump and dash through the level’s whilst listening to a cool soundtrack, well nope… you’re wrong. You start off with a little rhythm guide which you can turn off with “RB” that helps you press the buttons in time. This game is all about timing and making sure you jump at the right time and combine certain moves to get through the game! (I would suggest bobbing your head in time with the music it worked for me)

Whilst playing the game you get introduced to different characters who tell you a story of how they were trapped in the Boombox, you get a chance to relive the scene and play as them. This is where the different genres of music really come into play for example, the first character you take control over is Barry. Barry is a funky disco kind of dude with a cool Elvis looking wig and when playing as Barry, you start to hear a difference in the soundtrack and in each movement you make. (so when you jump, dash, slam or just change certain things in the environment you may hear a cool hi hat or a cool bass hit which makes the game an interactive soundtrack)

The only downfall of this game that I can honestly say is that, it is way too short for the 11.99 price tag. Once you have ran through the campaign with the 3 playable characters, there isn’t much more for you to do. I do hope that the developers look into making either DLC or even just a nice free update to the game giving the players more head bopping fun!
