Love – Improvements between Danganronpa and Danganronpa 2
As all good sequels should Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair introduces some welcome changes to the formula that the original set. Predominantly in the way to how class trials are handled, while you still seek the truth in statements you can now find yourself corroborating with classmates rather than just picking holes in their statements. There are more minigames to break up the pace during the trials and the previous minigames have been refined. The changes are sometimes slight, but enough to notice and welcome having played the two games so close together. The second entry also offers players more in the way of unlockable content after finishing the main narrative. Not only are we granted access to a free time mode where you can see scenes missed previously as in the first game but there is now a whole new arcade style shooter and novel to gain access to. The novel in particular is a highlight as it sheds a lot of information on the backstory to the world.
Would I recommend?
Based on the above and all my experiences with both games would I recommend them? I certainly would. The offbeat humour and surrealism mixed together with the dark subject matter is a delightful blend, my only advice would be to not play both of them back to back as I did. The pacing can be glacial at times and when you’re just pressing proceed through reams of text it can be quite taxing for the attention span.
