Rivals of Aether (Game Preview) Review

The easiest way to describe this game is to think low-budget smash bros but don’t think that the word low budget means its rubbish it actually a good fun and addictive game.

It’s a fast paced beat em up with a nice be it small selection of characters ( but this is only the preview I am playing)

So as I said before this game is just like smash bros in like the setup of the game and how you deal damage to the opponent but that’s it after that the game is a stand alone.

As I said you do only get 8 playable characters as of yet but they are 8 characters that are all different and not a copy of each other (just like Mario and Luigi from smash bro) they all have their own unique look and special moves.

There are no item drops or even a shield that you can spam which is a nice twist instead they have given you a counter/dodge system which is hard to get to grips with but a great change of pace if you ask me

When in a match it feels fast and fluent not like some games I have played in the past.

The game modes consist of local, online, story and abyss mode, unfortunately, story and abyss mode are unavailable to me at this time as it is only a preview but I have played a lot of the online and found it to be a big challenge as some people are just crazy good at this game already (or maybe I am just really really bad) but none the less I have enjoyed what I have been able to play so far

Rivals of Aether 1

The music in the game is ok nothing too memorable but nothing that is going to drive you crazy.

There is so much going on all the time when in a match it’s hard to hear it all but the small little touches they have done work well, for instance, a character called Zetterburn is a badass fire lion and when he charges up his moves you hear the flames roar up I think little touches like that make a game great

The controls are preset and easy to use but if you don’t like them you can change every button if you wanted to.

It’s very like smash bros as in you got the normal combos then strong  charge up attacks and of course ur specials and I know I said it before but there is no player has the same move or even a hint of a clone attack so it shows that the developers really took time with each character to make them all different and unique

Rivals of Aether 2

The graphics of the game are nice the arenas where you fight are pretty and have a nice backdrop, the characters all have their own unique look and charm about them and I love it.

Sure you might be saying but we are in the next gen era well sorry to say but these kind of games are a nice reminder of how great it used to be as well.

All the colors are bright and vibrant and it just works so well take my man Zetterbuen again when charging a fire attack you see the reds and yellows all mixing up and looking great then Boom he takes off and hits his target which sets them alight and dealing damage like a boss.
