Nintendo Releasing SNES Mini Later This Year

nintendo-snes-01

Yesterday, news broke of Nintendo suddenly discontinuing the NES Mini they released last year in spite of its still teeming demand and success. Today, a report by Eurogamer is claiming that the reason the discontinuation of the NES Mini is to make way for the announcement and release of an SNES Mini.

According to Eurogamer, the SNES Mini (or the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System, if the company’s current naming scheme is to be followed) is scheduled to launch before Christmas of this year and the development of the device has already started.

When the NES Mini was released last year, it was met with so much demand and fanfare that it was almost always sold out, with many taking to eBay to either sell or buy the console because of the high demand for it.

Hopefully, if Nintendo is planning to release an SNES Mini later this year, the company will produce more initial stock to meet the expected demand for it. While the NES is the company’s first home console, it was the SNES that featured more iconic titles such as The Legends of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, and more.
