D/Generation HD Review

A lot of emphasis this day and age is on backward compatibility and old games getting remade. D/Generation HD is a remake of the originally released in 1991 on multi formats. Made by West Coast Software.

You play as a courier who has to make it through the levels in order to deliver an urgent package to Derrida a top researcher of “Genoq”. As you arrive via a jetpack to the roof of the building the first thing becomes apparent is that there is no going back as the door locks firmly behind you, After going down the first corridor you come across is a worm in a grate that rotates and if it sees you it will shoot you, so you have to run around while it turns so you don’t get shot.

As you progress you find out that the building is under attack from some of the bioweapons that Genoq made, you come across more enemies in the search for survivors and Derrida. The puzzles are simple to start with all to do with timing and also to press switches in certain orders.

I found that the switches sometimes was hard to spot as they were along a wall that all i can describe as ghosts and becomes transparent, but unless you are close to them you can’t see them. The sounds are very early 90s with the 8 bit blips and bongs but nothing like the sound effects you get today. The graphics themselves do look polished but still give the feeling of 1990’s gaming. At times it can feel very dated and the movement of the player is a bit glitchy at times and feels very clunky.

What do you think?
