So here we go again. Another Lego game, surely they can’t just be doing the same crap over and over again. I mean the actual core gameplay is just the same…isn’t it?
TT Games have really hit the ball out of the park with The Force Awakens.
Yes it is another Star Wars Lego Game
Yes, it looks like a rehashed version of the rest of them but…No!
This game felt like a breath of fresh air, playing was so satisfying that I couldn’t get enough, so the Seventh movie has been released and there will be a whole new trilogy to be included in the Star Wars franchise following on from Return of the Jedi. Lego has covered all of the movies starting with the first three episodes and then finishing with the later three, but TT Games released three movies in one game…This is just one movie on one game…so how can it work?
They have created a masterpiece, you open up on the back end of Return of the Jedi with the fight on Endor with Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca and the Ewoks taking on the empire and their huge AT-AT walkers plowing through the jungle. This opener was amazing…it really brought me back to the time I first saw the film when I was 8yrs old. You then cross over to the Jedi fight between Vader and Skywalker with The Emperor sitting there watching on and to finish it off you control Calrissian in the Millennium Falcon destroying the Death Star. So much action and this is just the prologue!
Throughout the prologue, there are new features that really give the game new depths and keeps it fresh when building you can flick the LS which will show a hologram of where and what you want to build so you can build to progress on in the level or build to reach an area to collect hidden gems. This is a really good feature and lets you build more…can’t get enough of building lego!
Then we have the cover system…yes you heard me right a cover system in Lego, you can peak over cover and blast away at storm troopers or you can flank and destroy them from different angles. This really takes away the constant aiming system in the past games and the worthless deaths where you’re missing an enemy because you’re shooting a tree to get more studs for that high score.
Still in the game is character only moves to progress which I always enjoy, although I hate the ones in the early missions where you need a character that you obtain in the later levels.
Controls throughout the game stay the same…the old saying, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it comes to mind here. From the first Lego Star Wars game I played they have stayed the same, this makes it really easy to just pick up and play.
The droids also have a pivotal use in the Force Awakens, from R2-D2 to BB-8, they have massive uses from light combat to tech moves to open doors, you have mini puzzles to unlock and also small mini games to charge beams to unlock other areas. The game is filled with mini games to keep you mind at ease from shooting trees and storm troopers to get studs for that elusive high score and true Jedi score.
All characters have use’s as always, Rey has a baton that can be used to get to higher ledges and also she can climb walls and traverse across great distances, where characters like Finn and Han Solo have a grappling hook. Chewbacca has thermal grenades and the Jedi has the force.
I will say there are moments of what the hell? Why was that included? When you have to explore areas for no reason…basically they’re fillers as like I said before this is the first time a solo movie has got a whole game in the Lego Star Wars genre.
Apart from that the game has the authentic sounds from the movies with the characters and their voices, it visually is stunning for a lego game that is.
The humor in the game is up there with the best I’ve played. So many moments I found myself wetting myself with laughter. The scene where Kyo Ren is praying to the mask of Darth Vader, but the light turns on in his room and it is filled with posters of Darth vader…like I know he is your granddad but bro man crush overload!
