Videoball by made by MMXVI Action button it’s a very simple but rather fun and addictive arcade game it’s sort of a mix of pong and rocket league, in my opinion, it’s a very easy game to pick up and play, anyone can give it a go without too much trouble.
It’s a very simple concept of you taking control of a triangle and make 3 different types of shots to get a goal with playing 1 v 1 or up to a 3 v 3 matchup.
The graphics of the game are very simple but work to how the game plays. Whether it be a 1 v 1 or 3 v 3 there is a lot to watch and try to take in it’s very easy to lose track of the triangle you are meant to be playing and it doesn’t really help as all there is to differentiate from your team is being a solid color or a hollow one. There are different boards you can play so you can make the goals smaller or put blocks etc. on the board on and you can change the colors of the teams and balls but apart from that, that’s all there is really. The music of the game reminds me of the sega days with all their funky little tunes they had playing so I really enjoyed that and they do give you a choice when you start up the game be it a small choice it’s still there for you to play around with.
You do have some game sounds but they are all just dings when you hit the ball and that is all they are just dings so you do zone out and not really hear them at all. You also get to choose a commentator either Jen or Jake they don’t really do a lot just tell you if you score or the other team does an easy job or what?
The controls on this game are the easiest I have ever played its move with one on the sticks and shoot with any button you should choose when moving your triangle it does feel very loose like as if you was playing a driving game and you was on an ice track or something along them lines anyway. The biggest, most annoying thing about this game is when you are going through the options to create a game there is that no button you can press to allow you to go back by one screen so if you get one thing wrong you have to start all the way back from the start and no one likes doing that in this day and age it’s all about convenience and they didn’t even put in a back button how dare they!
The gameplay is nice and easy to get to grips with the move and shoot to try score there are 3 different kinds of shots from weak to strong and also you can create a block as a defensive tactic as well which does help. You can shoot other players to tackle them and they will be stunned for a short period of time which can buy you that last goal or if you just wanna troll.
The game modes they have local, online and arcade, I had no joy online finding a game which I found to be a surprise as I like the game, local is fun but not very hard when all you have for a competition is your blind wife…bless her. I did play arcade but that got dull fast as it’s pretty much you vs up to three CPU controlled triangles so I didn’t think much of that.
Massive thanks to Xbox for providing the code, this review was played on Xbox One but is also available on PS4 and Steam.
