Fragments of Him – Review

In Fragments of Him you experience the lives of four people connected by love and a tragic accident. You walk alongside Will on his last morning and discover the meaning of his final thoughts. With Mary, Will’s grandmother, you learn about his childhood, their conflict, and how they ultimately reconciled some of their differences. Sarah was Will’s girlfriend and first love. She tells us how she found a deeper understanding of herself during their time together. And finally, Harry is Will’s partner when the accident happens. Can Harry ever accept the loss?

So where to begin with this game if you can call it that it’s more of a play and you are just a thing that interacts with the highlighted object to make the story progress.

You watch a guy called will in different segments of his past present and aftermath and you see certain people involved in his life and go through that with them.

Fragments of Him 1The gameplay of this is not what i expected at all to be fair i was expecting a sort of make choices and deal with what happens but that is not the case at all, you do make a few choices but none of which really change the game in any way shape or form.

So following Will who was going to propose to his boyfriend and then the worse happens and will was involved in a car accident which in turn killed him so from there you go back into his life and see him as a boy from his nans view, an ex college girlfriend and his current partner, you don’t really have any control over anything which kind of got boring as you had to just click what was highlighted to progress and listen to the story.

Fragments of Him 3The graphics of the game suit it well it’s set off memories so there are many gray figures of random people and only the people who are in the story are outlined they do have no face but and are all set in a grey background of varied locations for where that memory is set.

It’s a very simple design for the whole game and it does work as their is nothing much going on other than the story.

Fragments of Him 4The back ground music is in my opinion just dark and gloomy all the way through but it works as that’s the tone for the whole game, The voice overs of the main characters is not bad it does feel a little bit emotionless at times and for a game that is essentially a screenplay it should be a lot better to make you feel really connected to the charters and their issues.

The controls are really simple move and point and that’s really it, they get rather annoying quickly as the game on a whole is very slow moving and not really my cup of tea, it gets really annoying at some parts of the game when you have to watch them walking or more disappearing and reappearing to steps in front so you have to reclick them all the time it did my head in to be fair why not just let them walk instead???

I would not personally play this game again it’s once it’s done nothing will change if you did it again as it’s a guided path rather than a free choice kind of game.
