Fan Fiction has always had a significant presence within communities, whether it be related to a popular TV series, film or game. Despite being a gamer for years, fan fiction has never really played a part in my gaming life. I’ve never written or even attempted to read fan fiction but recently, as I have been doing a lot more writing, it has begun to capture my interest as an entity.

With that said, I thought I would give it a go and so here you can find my first attempt at Fan Fiction which, while I know it is far from perfect, I hope you enjoy it.
Before you move on to the story itself, I shall give you some minor context. The piece, set within Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, follows the main character with his squad as they are pinned down by an onlooking sniper. What follows is a tale of Heroism, Friendship and Loyalty.
Enjoy.
Crossfire
We were cornered. Stuck behind an abandoned car, we kept our heads low to avoid the sights of a sniper who waited eagerly at the top of a nearby building. Me and my comrades had dispatched some of his men moments before but he was quick to take his shot, taking out one of my squad. With three of my friends remaining – Bucky, George and Leo – and little room for manoeuvrability, we were trapped.
We had come to the city only a few hours ago, Captain Price had ordered us to clear out a nearby museum that the enemy was using as a base of operations. As always seems to be the case, we were ambushed en route by a group on patrol. Calling for backup, more came and before we knew it we were overrun. After almost an hour of fighting we had dwindled their numbers significantly, the dead littered the street. Upon our victory we advanced, making sure to watch our flanks for any men who might have found cover in hope of surprising us, but it all seemed clear. Then, we heard a bang. Ramirez fell to the floor, a clean shot through the head. We shifted into cover, fast, not letting the sniper line up another shot.
“So what do we do?” Bucky was panicked, unlike his usual self; for as long as I’d known him he was tough but Ramirez’s death had seemed to affect him more than I had seen anything do before. Even back in Elementary school, where we met, he had always been the first to step in and stand up against the bullies, not letting their harsh words upset him. Every now and then he’d even fight them off, getting himself into trouble with the teachers. He’s certainly got me out of a few bad situations over the years.
“I think I can get a shot on him, just as long as you all cover me!” George had always been the problem-solver, always remaining calm and making sure everyone thought logically about a situation.
His plan sounded like our best shot and so we all rose, making sure to stay in cover as much as possible. Me, Bucky and Leo fired frantically at the sniper atop the building while George lined up the shot but, after a few seconds, he still wasn’t firing.
“Take the shot, George!!” I yelled.
“I can’t, I think my guns jammed!!” George anxiously fiddled with his gun, hoping somehow he could fix it but before he could we heard another bang.
George flew back, blood trailing from his head. Bucky, Leo and myself ran over to him but he was already dead.
Leo screamed in rage. He’d always had a temper. Back in boot camp, he’d constantly argue with the Commanders when they told him to do press-ups. Despite his argumentative nature, he always remained loyal to his friends, putting their needs before his own and, in that moment, I saw a tear fall from his eye. He wiped it away and rose, turning toward the sniper as he did.
“Come on then, you bastard!” He screamed as he would to the commanders. He pulled his trigger, streaming bullets up the front of the building. As the stream reached the buildings peak, Leo’s roar grew louder until…
Bang.
Leo stood motionless, blood coming from his mouth. Slowly, he turned to look at me and made motions with his mouth as though he were trying to speak. No words, just movement. His eyes rolled back as he dropped his gun and collapsed. I turned to Bucky whose face was as pale as mine.
“We need to do something, I’ve got a plan” Despite his obvious fear, Bucky remained on task. “You’re not going to like what I’m about to say but I think only one of us can make it out of here alive.”
I wasn’t sure what he meant, but the look in his eyes filled me with dread.
“I’ll be your distraction; he can only aim at one of us at a time. I’ll move out to the left and when he gets his sights on me you run to the right and advance on that building. I know it’s tough but you have to, it’s the only way we are going to be able to stop him now.”
I shook my head and told him I wouldn’t do it but he insisted. I grabbed hold of his arm and called him brother for the final time.
“You ready?”
I nodded as Bucky ran out to the left of the car. I rose as quickly as I could and pressed forward to the buildings entrance. Bucky’s plan was working. I made it to the door, swung it open and went inside. I looked out through the door as it closed and, as it did, I saw my friend sacrifice himself for me.
Overwhelmed with anger, I stormed up the stairs to the roof. Kicking the door down, I fired upon the sniper. He fell just as my friends did at his hand. I walked slowly over to his body, hoping to take one final glance at the man who had stolen my friends from me.
My legs felt weak as I stood atop the monster’s corpse. I squatted down and, despite being overcome with rage and despair, with a broken voice I managed to speak.
“Teabag.”
